Beauty Spotlight: Sangre de Fruta

February 5, 2017

Sangre de Fruta is quickly taking over our vanity. Handcrafted in British Columbia using locally sourced botanicals, this luxe collection of creams, serums and oils is a beauty buff’s dream come true. Each and every product is packed with organic nutrients and formulated using all-natural scents, meaning no synthetic perfumes or hard-to-pronounce ingredients. For more on our new favorite find, we caught up with founder Allison Audrey Weldon, a former costume designer turned beauty botanist.

Why were you interested in creating your own collection?
“I’ve always been interested in the crossroads of aromatherapy, herbal medicine, natural perfumery and ancient beauty rituals. I wanted to offer an Old World approach to natural beauty by indulging the senses honestly and making the skin glow.”

Where do you find inspiration?
“I’m always inspired by the flowers and botanicals that create the essential oils—their history and folklore, where they are grown, their medicinal properties—and the visuals and emotions the essential oils evoke after they’ve been blended.”

Do you have a favorite product in the collection?
“Rose No. 1 Botanical Body Cream. The creams were the first products I made, and I spent a month’s rent on my first bottle of Rose Otto oil before I sold a single jar. I thought it was the most beautiful scent I’d ever come across. Then I learned about the heart-opening aromatherapeutic qualities and the magical effects it has on the skin, and it all made sense.”

Say you’re going on vacation and can only bring three beauty products. What makes it into the bag of a pro?
“Moisturizer, red lipstick, mascara.”
