Love at First Sight: The Designer Collective by BHLDN Weddings

April 18, 2018

As every bride knows, finding the perfect wedding gown is no easy task. That’s why our friends at BHLDN scoured the globe for their latest capsule, The Designer Collective. Featuring an eclectic mix of celebrated designers from the foothills of California to the shores of the Mediterranean, this exclusive new bridal collection is defined by luxe fabrics, exquisite lace, and couture detailing.

To truly showcase each gown’s craftsmanship and charm, BHLDN is hosting a series of in-store trunk shows this summer. Here, they share the stories behind their favorite designers.

Daughters of Simone
Sister duo Ashley and Brittany Castanos are the creative minds behind Daughters of Simone. With a carpenter father and an abstract artist mother, they developed an eye for detail and artistry from an early age. Inspired by their home state of California, their travels through Indonesia and Australia, and their mother’s own 1970s gown, they’ve created a truly unique bridal collection. The epitome of boho-chic, each dress features graphic lace and unexpected details.

Liz Martinez
French-Israeli designer Liz Martinez designs and constructs each of her gowns with a team of artisans in her Israel-based studio. Interested in fashion since childhood, she’s come a long way since the early stages of her career when she worked out of a small bedroom in her mother’s apartment. For Martinez, each dress is a reminder of how a young girl’s dream can become a reality, whether she’s planning her wedding day or leading a thriving company.

Costarellos
Greek designer Christos Costarellos was born in Dusseldorf, Germany, to parents who both worked in the fashion industry. After completing his own studies in Greece and London, he launched his eponymous fashion house in 1998, and has since added bridal to his repertoire. His feminine creations are decidedly forward-thinking, combining beautifully crafted European laces, couture tailoring, modern silhouettes, and flattering bias cuts.

Johanna Johnson
Since opening her first store in 2005, Johanna Johnson has dressed celebrities on red carpets around the world, including Chrissy Teigen, Madonna, and Meryl Streep. Her Sydney-based team crafts wedding gowns with the same impeccable tailoring and luxurious fabrics for which Johnson’s couture collections are known. Elegant and sophisticated, her Art Deco-inspired silhouettes are perfect for the bride who wants to exude Hollywood glamour on her big day.

Rime Arodaky
Inspired by 1970s icons such as Jane Birkin and Romy Schneider, Rime Arodaky challenges the image of the traditional bride. Sheer details and modern silhouettes are the cornerstone of the Parisian designer’s sophisticated yet effortless collection, which is crafted using luxe crepe and lace sourced from the finest French and Italian workshops. An avid supporter of animal rights and environmental issues, Arodaky uses only vegan materials and exclusively works with partners who shares her vision of a cruelty-free business model.

Theia
Helmed by Irish designer Don O’Neill, Theia owes its name to the Greek goddess whose sparkling eyes are said to have harnessed the power of light. Originally trained as a chef, O’Neill followed his true passion to fashion school, eventually landing at such renowned labels as Carmen Marc Valvo and Badgley Mischka. With a nod to tradition, his romantic bridal gowns are adorned with exquisite Chantilly and Guipure laces, Spanish tulles, and intricate beading.
