Girlfriends Valentine’s Day BrunchFebruary 9, 2015
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to show your sweetie some love, of course, but why stop there? This year, we’re extending special invitations to our other significant others: our ever-inspiring, advice-giving, laugh-a-minute girlfriends. To help us plan a Valentine’s brunch just for them, we enlisted lifestyle blogger Leah Bergman of Freutcake. From pink drinks to cheery place settings to from-the-heart French toast, Leah’s brunch is thoughtful, feminine and fun. To hear how she pulled it all together, plus her thoughts on good food and best friends, read on!

How does hosting a brunch differ from hosting a dinner?
While I like serving family style dishes for both, brunch is always more relaxed! Also, it’s the one meal where you can serve both sweet and savory foods. It’s the best of both worlds.
Let’s talk about the menu. What do these sweet, delicate and delectable dishes convey to your gal guests of honor?
In my opinion, it’s the little things that show love and thoughtfulness. Small details like making compote butter for the baked French toast and turning everyday grapefruit into brƒ»léed grapefruit are easy ways to elevate a simple brunch.
Besides great taste, what makes a brunch table shine?
I love setting a colorful table and used the pinks and purples in the Francophile plates to inspire not just the flowers, but also the flavors of pink grapefruit and raspberry throughout the menu. The gold flatware and colorful glasses definitely made the table shine, but the fresh flowers really brought it to life!
We couldn’t help but notice that you and your friends dressed to the theme, each in your own way. How have your friends’ styles and perspectives influenced or inspired you?
I’m constantly inspired by my girlfriends; they’re all very talented, creative and stylish. Not just in the way they dress, but in their actions and accomplishments as well. Each one brings a unique perspective to our group which is why it’s so much fun to get together.
Which are better, old friends or new?
Oh, that’s such a hard question! Both, I’d say. It’s fun to make new friends who share your current interests that can be very fulfilling. But old friends know you better than anyone. You know you have a great group of girlfriends when you leave a brunch thinking, why can’t we do this every week?! Thank goodness for girlfriends.
