What’s the difference between a lunch and a luncheon? In a word, charm. We were lucky enough to be on Lulie Wallace’s guest list recently, and we’re still smitten with her warm, casual take on the age-old afternoon gathering. Here, the Charleston-based artist behind our favorite florals shares her tips for hosting a summer soiree with Southern flair.

“I love to entertain in my home! My goal is to always have as much done as possible before guests walk through the door. Someone once told me that there’s a difference between just hosting and being hospitable.”

“Make-ahead dishes are always my go-to when hosting. The less time I spend in the kitchen, the more quality time I have with my guests.”

“When it comes to flowers, I like to create low-lying focal pieces instead of one large bouquet— it makes the table more relaxed and practical for a gathering. It’s always annoying when there’s a giant vase in front of your neighbor’s face!”

“Even when I buy arrangements, I love taking greenery from my yard to make them more organic and less manicured. It gives them more life!”
