Table Talk: Spring Entertaining

April 12, 2017

We love a proper dinner party. The linens, the place cards, the just-for-company plates—it’s always fun to play dress up with the table. But something about warmer weather (the lack of shoes, perhaps?) calls for a more relaxed approach to entertaining. With spring in full swing and summer on the way, we asked our friend Leah Bergman, the food and lifestyle blogger behind Freutcake, for tips on setting a casual, inspiring table. The good news: your melamine is totally invited.

“For seating, you can’t beat a picnic table. Bench seating is perfect for little ones who like to play musical chairs.”

Melamine plates, bowls and serveware are great for outdoor entertaining. The colors are festive, and with so many dishes being passed around, you won’t have to worry about anything breaking. For flatware, I love the Atelier collection‘s casual contrast of wood and metal.”

“Vases are fussy and easy to knock over if you’re serving family-style. Instead, create an edible centerpiece with your favorite fruits, then tuck in a few freshly cut flowers as a finishing touch. It’s great for kids—a healthy treat is always within arm’s reach.”

“Make a large pitcher of lemonade or infused water so you can relax instead of refill glasses. For food, keep it fresh and simple—think crostini with an herbed cheese spread and honey.”
