Present Perfect: Monogram Gifting

December 15, 2017

The monogram has come a long way.

Once a primitive marking on Ancient Greek coins, the motif has evolved into one of the classiest ways to say “mine.” Leonardo da Vinci used a monogram to authenticate some of his most famous works, Coco Chanel turned her interlocking initials into an empire, and the Yankees laid a bold claim to New York with their iconic insignia. From bookbags to wedding invitations, cufflinks to linens, the monogram knows no limits.

But our favorite way to use the monogram is less “mine” and more “yours.” When paired up with a thoughtful little something, these monogrammed gifts are letter perfect.

FOR THE TEACHER
Our teacher friends let us in on a little secret: gift cards are always appreciated. Slip one inside a monogram journal for a personal touch.

FOR LITTLE ONES
Everyone knows the stocking is the best part of Christmas morning. Gift them one to open year after year (fully stuffed, of course).

FOR THE HOSTESS
How to thank her for a lovely evening? Wrap up a bag of your favorite coffee beans with a monogrammed mug for her to enjoy in the morning.

FOR YOUR BESTIE
For the one whose earrings you’ve long borrowed: tuck a sparkly pair in a velvet monogram pouch.

FOR THE NEWLYWEDS
Their first Christmas is one to celebrate. Skip the keepsake ornament and toast the happy couple with a bottle of bubbly and monogrammed flutes.
