Push Play Project: Introducing Lucius
Don’t be fooled by their looks—Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig aren’t twins: they’re just two wildly talented songbirds who not only make must-hear music, but just so happen to possess a similar retro-inspired personal style. The duo sings and dresses in tandem as front-women for the Brooklyn-based indie-pop band Lucius. It’s an irresistible Stevie Nicks-meets-David Bowie-meets-The Smiths combination—one we couldn’t wait to share on our Push Play Project stage. And so, ahead of Lucius’ debut album release (save the date for 10/15) and their free concert on 10/3 at our Chelsea Market store, we caught up with Jess and Holly for a little get-to-know-you repartee.
Jess and Holly are both wearing our Spliced Pencil Dress.
Do you have any tips or tricks to making the same style work for both of you?
We have pretty similar taste, despite our different body types and personalities. We both have a deep love of 60s glam, Bjork, Edie Sedgwick, David Bowie, Twiggy, etc. If we feel good about it, we will feel good in it. If we feel good in it, it will look good on both of us.
What do you love most about performing?
The connection and energy we get from the crowd. They’re coming out to support live music, and their dedication and enthusiasm takes playing music to another level.
Where did the name Lucius originate?
The band was named after Jess’ English bulldog Lucius. He is no longer with us, but what an atrociously handsome beast he was!
With fall fast approaching, what staples are you most excited to wear?
Fall is our favorite season for fashion. A good boot and a good hat always do the trick, but we’re huge fans of tights and cloaks, too.
Last but not least, what are two things people might not know about you?
We have many similarities: our mothers are artists, we’re obsessed with Jane Goodall, we both have blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin and bad eyesight, and we wear size eight shoes. Also, our band eats a lot of Vietnamese food—pho, vermicelli and Sriracha please!
Jess and Holly are both wearing our Swallowtail Sheath.
