Party Feet: Playing Dress-Up With Paper Artist Brittani Rose

November 10, 2017

When was the last time you played with paper dolls?

For most of us, the answer is “entirely too long ago.” But for Brittani Rose, almost every day involves two-dimensional dress-up. What was once a hobby is now a full-time job for the San Diego-based artist, whose custom “paper portraits” became an Instagram hit.

“I’ve always loved making art with paper,” she tells us. “From the age of four I would create my own paper dolls, and throughout the years it became more and more intricate.”

Intricate is putting it lightly. Brittani’s popular wedding portraits can take weeks to complete as she meticulously replicates a gown’s lace and beadwork. With an elaborate flower crown and a fringed shawl, her Frida Kahlo paper doll is positively frame-worthy. Beachy waves and curly up-dos? No problem—Brittani has a specialty paper and scissor for every cut and curl.

We’re such fans of Brittani’s high-fashion dolls that we asked her to get crafty with some of our favorite holiday shoes. The result? Perfect paper pairs we couldn’t wait to share with you (after we played with them, of course).

We love the Ruffled Kitten Heels in both crushed velvet and textured paper. As pretty as they are practical, this low-riding pair will take you from your desk to the office party, no shoe change required.

Frilled satin? Way to get in the holiday spirit, Vienna Heels. Show off this statement pair from Monica Botkier with everything from occasion dresses to slouchy denim.

Every great party shoe deserves a great party bag. Our vote for cutest couple: the Bow T-Straps and Velvet Star Clutch.

Follow the Edana Ankle Strap Sandals to the holiday party. In subtly shimmered brocade, they’re the perfect way to finish off a chic jumpsuit or tailored trousers. (Psst! They’re also available in festive red velvet.)

Our favorite kind of snow boots? The ones with rhinestone snowflakes. Nanette Lepore’s embellished wool Linette Boots shine with party skirts and cropped trousers alike.
