Meet The Maker: Janelle Pietrzak

February 28, 2017

Janelle Pietrzak approached her latest All Roads collection with a question: “How do I weave the sunset?” Research began in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains, just steps away from her breezy Los Angeles home and studio. “I hike at least once a week, but it’s always different,” she says. “And to me, it’s always beautiful—the way the light filters through the grass, the lines of the horizon, the silhouette of the city.” After a trip to Joshua Tree, where golden wildflowers and fiery-pink cactus blooms carpeted the desert floor, she was ready for her loom. The result? Handmade bedding and pillows, vibrant in color and imbued with West Coast warmth.

A great day begins with coffee with homemade almond milk.

The last song I listened to on repeat was “More Than This” by Roxy Music.

I’m proud of the community of designers and artists that I’m part of.

I’ve always wanted to have a little shop with a studio in the back.

My dream dinner party guests include designers Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman.

My most prized possession is my vintage faded blue velvet sofa.

If I wasn’t an artist I’d be a botanist.

The next place I want to travel is Mexico City.

Weekends are for hiking and exploring.

Happiness is creating, collaborating and enjoying nature.
