Share The Love: DIY Valentine Gifts

February 10, 2017

If you really want to melt hearts this Valentine’s Day, think outside the box of chocolates. Perfect for besties and sweeties alike, these crafty DIYs make for thoughtful gifts.

FROM-THE-HEART PIN
A one-of-a-kind token for your one-of-a-kind Valentine.

What You’ll Need
Cardstock
Fabric scraps
Scissors
Needle
Thread
Safety pin

How To Make It
Determine how big you want your heart to be, then make a template on a piece of cardstock (remember, it will shrink a bit once the edges are sewn together). Select two pieces of fabric—mix and match for an extra-special look—and cut out a front and back for your heart. Sew the fabrics together with the wrong sides facing out, leaving a 1/4″ border. When almost closed, turn your heart inside out, stuff with remaining fabric scraps and sew shut. Secure the safety pin to back and give it to someone special!

LOVE BUG
These crafty critters will set hearts aflutter.

What You’ll Need
Paint
Paintbrush
Cardstock
Scissors
Glue
Sturdy string or wire

How To Make It
Paint a pattern of your choosing on cardstock. Using the provided template, cut out the wings and body shape, then trace them onto the decorated cardstock. Cut out, fold the body as instructed and glue on the wings. To create the antennae and legs, puncture two holes on the head and three on each side of the body, then thread with sturdy string or wire.

OMBRE WAFFLES
We couldn’t resist the heart-shaped waffle iron, but these festive waffles are just as sweet in conventional shapes, too. As you make the waffles, simply add increasing amounts of red food dye to the batter to create a range of blushes, pinks and reds.
