Beauty Buff: Talking Shop at Anthropologie & Co. Walnut Creek

October 3, 2016

There is so much to see at the new Anthropologie & Co. in Walnut Creek, but our happy place has to be its 1,000-square-foot beauty boutique. Show us shelves stocked with bath, body, skin, hair and fragrance finds from around the world—each one thoughtfully formulated and beautifully packaged, of course—and we’ll show you how to spend an entire afternoon. Now that we’ve had a couple weeks since opening to let it all soak in, we caught up with Shannon W., Beauty Department Manager and exfoliator evangelist, to talk shop.

We have to admit: we’re a tiny bit jealous of your job. How did you get involved in the beauty industry?

I’ve always been passionate about beauty—I’m such a product junkie! Over a decade ago I made it more than just a hobby and began working as a merchandiser and planner, which took me coast to coast. I’m so excited to be with Anthropologie & Co. today! I love working with brands that are promoting clean beauty in a glamorous yet sustainable way. We carry so many boutique labels that aren’t in the larger department stores, and my team and I look forward to educating our customers about the products and ingredients.

We don’t want to make you pick favorites, but what’s your MVP new product?

I’m loving Indie Lee’s Squalane Facial Oil. It’s completely pure and derived from olives. Not only has it improved the texture and tone of my skin, but it never feels greasy—amazing.

Pretend that we had some room left on the vanity. What’s the one product we don’t own, but should?

A Dr. Sponge charcoal facial sponge. It’s $9, infused with vitamins and minerals and can be used with a separate cleanser to exfoliate your skin. A must for all beauty lovers!

As you know, our Home Office is in Philadelphia. For those of us not lucky enough to call California home, how do you recommend maintaining a summer glow through fall?

First, start with a great morning regimen—I’m loving Indie Lee’s Brightening Cleanser, and Sunday Riley’s Good Genes is always a must. Then it’s all about a good bronzer. Right now my go-to is RMS Beauty’s Buriti Bronzer along with Ilia’s Illuminator Stick in Tenderly—it gives a great sun-kissed glow.

Let’s say you’re going away for the weekend and can only bring three beauty items—what makes it into your bag?

First, this would never happen. But to play the game, my top three would be Eve Lom’s Daily Protection SPF 50, FACE Stockholm’s Tinted Mineral Moisturizer, and RMS Beauty’s Lip2Cheek. But again, this would never happen.
