5 Things You Didn’t Know About Lauren Carlson Walcott

September 5, 2013

It’s no secret that we love dogs around the home office, which is why we were thrilled to discover that one of our very own specializes in pup portraiture. Meet Lauren Carlson WalcottAnthropologie’s Visual Merchandising Manager by day and painter extraordinaire by night. We may be biased, but we find her personality just as charming as her canine-centric artwork and tees.

On workspace: My worktable was handed down to me from my grandma. I love that it holds so many memoriesI even ate Thanksgiving dinner there as a child!

On tools: A good eraser is key. Also important: the perfect colors. I always make sure to have just the right shade of grey, white, mint, turquoise, neon pink and orange.

On childhood: My younger years were spent drawing and making things. My mother was an art teacher, so my toys growing up were crayons, pencils and construction paper.

On making art: I’ve always loved art, but I never knew what to do with it. Then recently I discovered that there doesn’t have to be a reason for creating things other than making myself or someone else happy.

On the collection: My husband and I are both dog people. We want one so badly, but we’re trying to wait until we’re more settled. This series has helped me be a bit more patient; I get attached to each dog I paint, so you could say I have 50+ dogs now!
