50 States of Denim: My Denim Diary

August 22, 2017

Three women whose style we love prove to be the ultimate source of denimspiration.

What is your first denim memory?
My first denim memory is from when I was about 10. I had an old pair of jeans that I had worn holes into, so I enlisted the help of my mom to help me sew patches and fix them. Instead of regular denim patches I chose embroidered patches, so I ended up with quite the colorful pair of jeans. I thought they were the coolest thing and wore them all year long!

What’s your best tip for wearing denim well?
Denim is all about fit, and my best tip to get a great fit is to give your denim time to break in. I think jeans feel their best after a few washes and wears.

What’s the best thing about your state?
The best thing about Texas is the people! I’ve made friends out of complete strangers just by striking up a conversation at a coffee shop.

What piece of denim do you always pack on a trip away?
Boyfriend jeans hands down! I’m a big comfort first kind of gal when it comes to traveling. You just never know when you’re going to get caught in an uncomfortable situation and it’s best to be prepared with some basic creature comforts. For me that’s a pair of jeans that easily dress up for most occasions and still feel soft and comfortable.

What’s your greatest denim influence?
Being a kid of the ’90s and early 2000s basically taught me everything I know about denim and all the ways it can be edgy and fun, from overalls to patchwork jean skirts.

What’s the best thing about your state?
The wildflowers, alpine lakes, huckleberries, antelope frolicking, kind people, and 360-degree mountain views form where I live. Montana is full of wild magic and unspoiled beauty.

What’s your best tip for wearing denim well?
Confidence! I think finding a pair of comfortable jeans that you are proud and excited to wear, really helps you exude confidence.

What piece of denim do you always pack on a trip away?
I always make sure to pack a pair of black skinny jeans. They are easily dressed up with a blouse and heels, and dressed down with sneakers and a cardigan. Making sure to have a pair of versatile denim is always necessary while traveling!

What’s the best thing about your state?
I’d say the best thing about Michigan is our Great Lakes. Lake Michigan is one of my favorite places for a quick getaway. No matter where you are in Michigan, one of our Great Lakes is only a quick drive away!
